I don't think the people who thought up modern advertising believed we would be where we are today. Who could blame them? Several decades ago, advertising was more of a craft than a profession. Nothing wrong with that. People didn't know much about the cumulative impact of their work back then.

Online is partly a craft, but it's also an industry, and it's looking more and more like one every day. We're still beholden to doing our jobs with some degree of eloquence and uniqueness. If advertising is the poetry (some call it an art, others a blight) of modern culture, what will the online marketing world mean to the next generation of marketers?

I don't care.

It's too hard (and a tad pretentious) to think what we do will matter in 5, 10, or 20 years. Technology is moving so fast, the marketing professionals of the future will probably laugh at the limitations we had to deal with just to get an advert, Web site, or marketing message out to the Internet, or anywhere for that matter. Needless to say, I don't worry about the future.

Regardless, it leaves us in an awkward position when it comes to handing out the credit for this mess. Can anyone claim to be the progenitor of online advertising? Many have claimed to be the creator of the first online ad, but does anyone really care? I don't.

For all we think of ourselves, consider this: a great cosmic wave will engulf our planet in a series of magnetic storms. I'm betting on or about March 22, 2028, at 4:33 in the afternoon when I'll probably be asleep, dreaming about flaky French pastry. All our work will be irretrievably gone. Forever. All we'll have to show for our toil is a vast sea of server racks standing like a Zen army of nothingness.

That's why I don't worry about the future of online marketing, online video, video blogs, rich ads, podcasts and all the other buzzy jargon. We don't need to worry about the future because it moves so fast that before you know it, it's right in front of you.

So in the constant struggle to betray what I think, I came up with some predictions for the New Year:

Will 2007 produce more integrated marketing than ever before? Possibly.

Will integration matter? That's debatable.

Will we see more lonleygirl15 programs on YouTube? Yes, unfortunately.

Will it bring more quality content online? I truly hope so.

New buzzwords? Sorry, but yes.

And what about reality show styled pitch videos? Please no -- never again!
The lesson we've learned is we should no longer go for seconds at the Internet punch bowl. Too many have done so and made a great spectacle of themselves. I won't mention any names here. You know who you are.

This isn't to say taking chances is an outdated concept. Quite the opposite is true. Risk, tempered with a level of knowledge and maturity, and an eye for quality are where online marketing professionals should keep their focus. Let's let the young exuberants bring the latest flash in the pan and teach us how unpredictable human behavior is.

The change that's ahead isn't a polar shift. Rather, it's a new chapter in the separation of professional content from non-professional content. But it's more than that. Making a video will be what anyone can do; making an interactive experience on a video platform will be the domain of specialists. And that's a good thing.

Now we can start thinking about how to do this whole interactive thing right rather than faking our way into it by using credentials and techniques from another time and industry. 2007 is the first step; let's make it a good one. Happy New Year.

I was reminded today of one of my Mothers favorite things to say when all four of her children had driven her to the point of exaustion. "Why don't you go play in traffic!" You know full well that your parents do not mean such things but I would often find myself thinking that the freeway was really only a few blocks away. Remember the video game Frogger? That was one of my favorites.

I realized that this is why I can see a simple script that performs a Cron Job as a great new toy. A Cron Job is a Daemon, or process that works in the background. The term comes from Greek mythology. The Daemons were gaurdian spirits. This Cron Daemon is instructed to fetch the news and deliver it to your blog. Because it is a simple script that executes commands at predefined time intervals you can regulate exactly how much and what news that your Cron Daemon posts to your list. I am able to generate news articles for my blogs that are meant to attract attention to the main ides I am interested in promoting on my blogs. I can send out this Daemon to Cron Job news articles and then post them while I do something else. My Daemon brings me some strange news somtimes too. It wants to please the master?

With the dark winter months coming on to remind us of our limitations there seems to be a frantic wave of interest in how to generate internet traffic to increase your business or even to make a little money on the side. A quick Google search on these terms will show two or three pages or results full of people rushing to provide you with those secrets. What is this phenomenon?

On Dec. 28th Ewen Chia and Jo Han Mok, well-known internet marketing experts, will release the "blue print" for a business system that builds up a large network of self-interested individuals all promoting your product. They call it an Autopilot Traffic Machine. What is an Autopilot Traffic Machine? This business system is commonly known as Affiliate Marketing. Generally the product is information that is published in pdf files, audio files, and video files. The producer of the information grants affiliates the rights to promote the information product and also compensates them with a large percentage of the sale. PICNIC '06, Day Three: Life After the 30-second Spot

Joseph Jaffe, author of Life After the 30-second spot, offered the keynote presentation for the first of four tracks at Picnic '06. His talk, which revolved around the topics covered in his book and was directed towards marketers, encouraged the audience to look beyond the 30-second spot in order to provide consumers with a story of their brand. The marketing world has changed and the ad industry needs to change with it or they will be left behind. It's time to move from the linear one-way communication and towards conversations with the consumers.

With so many options available to marketers, there is no longer a single choice on how to reach and connect with today's elusive disenfranchised consumer. Consumers have begun to outgrow marketing as they can easily access information about the products as well as when and where to buy. That along with the clutter (so many ads), the lack of creativity (what's the last TV commercial that you *really* remember), consumer awareness (knowledgeable about products and marketing), and unacceptable levels of wastage (broad appeals weaken the message) is killing the 30-second spot. Add in the fact that it's now more expensive than it ever has been to advertise on television to a "potential" audience and it's time to rethink the process. It's time to rethink branding, consumers, advertising, and advertising agencies.

Branding is a contact sport. Despite what companies may want, the brand is in the hands of the consumer. For example, frustrated with consumers referring to their brand as "Legos", Lego included a bold message on their website telling consumers to be proud of the Lego brand and to not refer to them or their product as Legos. It was a one way conversation very much like a parent telling a child what they could or could not do. Today's consumer is fickle and uninterested in traditional branding. Though they may change their loyalties, everyone in the audience agreed that it was the consumers that know the brand better than the marketer. If they see Legos, let them. And treat them as the first, last, and only customer that you will ever have.

The solution, Jaffe proposes, is greater integration. Integration is not sameness, mediocrity, or redundancy. It's sharing, listening, respecting, and investing time. It's taking a look at the old ways used in old media and combining them in new ways with new media. The customer doesn't care about the exact pantone color that you've used in each of your print and television ads. Give them a story, one that spans media and contacts and connects with the consumers in a variety of places. Give them a story that they can remember and feel a part of.

The new marketing blueprint is broadband, wireless, search, and network. Consumers are always on, wherever they might be, able to initiate their own interest, and connected to the conversation. Consumers are just as capable of generating content and it's time to experiment on the audience will experiment on you.

Hate Test Stress?

Your gut aches. Your palms are sweaty. The air is stale. You are cramped into a small desk in a crowded room that is full of the scent of stress, similar to the vibe a herd of cows gets once the front line starts dropping in the hamburger machine. You are taking a test.

Nothing like being tested to cause you to stress out and forget everything you crammed in at the last minuet. The stress gnaws at the caffine and ruins your best attempts to be altert by drinking as much coffee as you can get your hands on.

You end up so stressed out that you end up on a four day drinking binge.

The only reason you realize you have been on a four day binge is because you are sitting at a cramped desk, your gut aches, your palms are sweaty, the air is stale and you are struggling through a test you forgot to study for at all.

Your future is looking more dim than a 38 year old Taco Bell manager with the pony-tail...

Do you want more time to party and socialize?

If you are really industrious you can pick up entrepreneurial systems that you don't have to spend much time on that will bring in extra income. Increase your time, increase your money and watch your energy increase...you will be a power house.

Just What Is Blogging and Pinging?

There is a new partnership in cyber-town called Blogging and Pinging. It is not a new comedy team or even a singing group, but a new way to build links and attract visitors to your website and to make more money. Blogging and Pinging is a marketing tool that can help anyone build their online business.

Letâ€™s start with a definition of a blog.

Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author of the Web site.

Ok, so what about pinging? Originally, a ping was a program that bounced a request off another computer or server over a network or the Internet to see if the remote computer was responding. That same program is now used as a method of informing others that your blog exists and it also letâ€™s them know when a new post has been made.

When you put blogging together with pinging you get a technique that is extremely effective at getting any web site, no matter how big or small, indexed by the major search engines.

Why Is Blogging and Pinging The Newest Marketing Tool?

Most of you are now saying, "Yeah, so what? I can get my site indexed now. Whatâ€™s the big deal?" The big deal is that blogging and pinging gets your site indexed almost immediately and it is free!

If you have any experience trying to get a site indexed and listed in the major search engines, then you know that it is frustrating and very difficult to get done in a reasonable amount of time. After working hard to get your site together, collecting and writing content, worrying about keywords and keyword densities, you are not even close to being finished. Now comes the even harder part! Now you have to manually submit your site to all the major search engines. And finally, you get to wait.

Thatâ€™s right, you have to wait for the spiders to come to index your site. This could take weeks or it could take months. There are some methods that will help bring along the spiders a bit faster, but these take lots of time and effort and money. And still, you canâ€™t be sure that the spiders will come fast more quickly.

Blogging and pinging solves this problem. You can guarantee that spiders will come to your site and that you will get listed in all the major search engines with minimal effort and no money in about 48 hours.

How does it work? The largest search engine, Google, owns Blogger.com. This is the site that many people use to create their blogs. Google frequently sends their search engine spiders through Blogger.com to find new content.

So, if you have a blogger.com account you can add content from other websites to the content of your blog and when you blog the content of your site the URL of the page you are blogging is automatically attached. That way, when Googleâ€™s spiders index your blogger.com pages, they see your website URL within the content. If that URL isnâ€™t listed in the Google database, the spiders are almost certain to follow the link to index your site!

So, rather than wait for weeks, months, or even up to a year, you can get your site listed virtually immediately! Google themselves will tell you that they would rather discover new URLâ€™s by finding links than getting them via submission. So, why not blog and ping and give them what they want!

One critical success factor in boosting your link popularity is to use the blog and ping technique to notify lots of other sites anout new content on your web site. This is achieved by using your blogger.com publishing function to ping the major blog directories such as Technorati and Blo.gs.

Another good piece of news is that once Google has indexed your site, other search engines that use Googleâ€™s feed will list your site too. And it all happens at lightening speed!

Blogging and pinging is a really effective method to get your site spidered by the major search engines and, more importantly, getting those all important links.

I can't sum it up any better than Dr. Hyatt himself on Page 18 and 19
of The Complete Course for Undoing Yourself.

in high tension situations, and thus our lower brain has not changed or

The Secret of all Undoing work is--to create FREE SPACE-TIME--a place
where the self can dwell--a place where you can really choose--a place
of self-respect and integrity--a place in consciousness.
It is important not to be fooled by the words "consciousness" and
"super-consciousness" as neither come as a guaranteed gift; nor is
consciousness in one person equal to that of another--some people are
simple born with more of the "stuff."

Interestingly, some even consider consciousness a disease: an in
between land-in-between the simple beast and the possible God. Most of
what we call consciousness is simply self-consciousness--which is the
internalization of the Other. So instead of consciousness, (which is a
band of Free Space-Time), we have consciousness of the Other, both
within and without.

Self-consciousness is not unique to the humanimal. Other animals are
self-conscious: they recognize themselves as separate, but in
relationship to the Other. If you notice a dog in relation to you, the
awareness of the dog's self consciousness is immediately apparent.

For the humanimal, self-consciousness is co-extensive with tension,
and the type of tension which first comes to mind is anxiety. Through
the exercises we begin to transform the tension based
self-consciousness into clean, clear, blank, consciousness--which is
Free Space-Time."

There is a Temple with Nine Pillars. It is one of the gates that the time travel millionaires use to shuttle back and forth and seed their investments.
